Forest (2025)
The work explores how night transforms the landscape into a state of being. The kind of forest seen in these images has disappeared from Southern Finland due to industrial forestry and land use. The simple title emphasizes disappearance—both from the environment and from our collective awareness—and refers to what a natural growth forest looks like when it has been allowed to realize itself over centuries—to simply be a Forest. In a way, it is a restoration of dignity.
The work portrays one of the most beautiful—if not the most beautiful—remaining fragments of untouched old-growth forest in Southern Finland. It also engages with the concept of the inner landscape, which is deeply rooted in European culture. Night, along with the drifting mist from the nearby sea, transforms the landscape, reducing it to a soft and limited palette of tones. Yet this reduction is not merely a loss but an invitation.
