Melancholy Objects portrays taxidermy animals archived in natural history collections - museum objects that have been created with the aim of producing the most realistic view possible of the animals that ended up on the taxidermist's table. Some of these objects date in time before documentary wildlife photography or realistic scientific views of the animals. The taxidermist's creation does not represent the animal, but fantasies and assumptions about what the image of the animal should look like. When photographed, something happens to these objects: the distance between the object and the animal on which it originates disappears. The presence of time is accentuated, both through the oxidations of objects and through changes in our view of the world as well as our imagination, representation methods and in the natural sciences.
